Orange blossom honey is obtained from the nectar collected from the flowers of orange, lemon and mandarin plants, typical of the western side of Sicily, where it is obtained. Orange blossom honey has a very light color, taking on shades ranging from transparent to straw yellow. It has a floral scent, which fades with the passage of time, turning towards more fruity notes. The very sweet taste traces the characteristics of its typical perfume. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, it is a valuable source of energy and can be used as a cough suppressant and to counter colds and flu symptoms. Its sweet taste makes it very palatable and for this reason it is often used for the preparation of savory dishes, such as roasts, and desserts, especially fried. It is highly recommended to consume it in combination with cheeses such as mozzarella, scamorza and caciocavallo. It is also often used as a sweetener for teas and herbal teas.
